A plane has landed safely on a busy high way in California's Silicon Valley. The emergency landing occurred during rush-hour traffic.
It was about 8 a.m. on Thursday, when a pilot and a student pilot were on a training exercise on board a single-wing, fixed engine airplane and landed on a busy San Jose expressway, just after takeoff from the Reid-Hillview Airport. The pilot who was alive to tell the story was said to have noticed a malfunction shortly after take-off and was forced to make the emergency landing.
The plane managed to avoid traffic on the roadway and pulled off into a right-turn lane.
Surprisingly, a spokeswoman for San Jose police said neither the pilot nor the passenger on board was injured and no one on the ground was hurt.
The Bellanca 7ECA single-engine aircraft is owned by Amelia Reid Aviation LLC.
The company operates a flight training school from nearby Reid Hillview airport in east San Jose.
